Spencer Boggess

As managing director of alternative investments for Truist Advisory Services, Inc., Spencer leads the Investment Advisory team responsible for Truist’s outlook and strategy for private equity, private credit, and hedge funds. In this role, Spencer is responsible for due diligence and manager selection for hedge funds and private capital, serves as a portfolio manager for select portfolios, and is responsible for the firm’s publications and advisory work on alternative investments. In addition, he is responsible for the team conducting research, manager selection, and portfolio management for alternative investments.

Spencer has more than 30 years of experience in alternative investment research, portfolio management, and consulting. Prior to joining the Investment Advisory Group (IAG) in 2016, Spencer served as managing director and chief investment officer of alternative investments for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management where he was responsible for their hedge fund and private equity platform. Previously, he served as head of hedge fund investment, portfolio management and research for Bank of America. Other prior positions include senior portfolio manager and CEO for US Trust Hedge Fund Management Inc., senior vice president and co-director of research for CTC Consulting, and principal at Winston Partners. Spencer is based in New York City.

Under the auspices of the Greenwich Roundtable, a nonprofit focused on alternative investments education, Spencer served as:

• Primary author of “Best Practices in Hedge Fund Investing: Due Diligence for Equity Strategies”
• General editor of three subsequent volumes spanning global macro, managed futures, credit, and fixed income strategies
