United Way of America launched an initiative to battle youth obesity in 2008. Leveraging its longstanding relationship with the NFL, United Way commenced fundraising efforts during the 2008 Super Bowl™.

Seeking an innovative approach, United Way and the NFL leveraged Truist’s mobile giving technology in support of fundraising efforts. The "Text-to-Give" promotion was launched during the Super Bowl via a 10-second ad featuring Tom Brady. The ad encouraged donors to make a $5 donation in support of youth fitness by sending a text message of "FIT" to "UNITED" (864833) from any mobile device.

The first of its kind promotion was widely hailed as innovative in the charitable space, and has attracted attention on YouTube and in the blogosphere.
