History
I started truist.com in the late summer of 2000. I was interested in learning about some form of Unix, and ended up choosing NetBSD on the advice of a friend (Schmonz). After months of learning and using it, I have to say: he was right. It has been a fantastic OS, both because of its ease-of-understanding, and because of its stability and security.
Server
I won’t detail every server technology that I use, but here are the ones I care about:
- NetBSD because it’s secure, stable, and understandable. But mostly because it’s just right.
- pkgsrc for installing/maintaining just about everything.
- djbdns for dns. BIND (named) sucks in most of the ways you wouldn’t want your dns server to suck.
- qmail because it’s better than sendmail.
- Textpattern for web content because it is also just right.
A long time ago, I started a “NetBSD Install Documentary” that I never finished. Amusingly, it’s in MS Word format. It’s still around if you’re interested.
